Congratulations to Charlize Goody and Toby Stolberg who have been selected to attend the U15 National Camp which was to be held in Canberra in October. We are awaiting further information on this camp and hope that it will be able to go ahead amidst these uncertain times. We wish the girls all the best and look forward to hearing about their experience.
This coming Thursday we are offering extra training for kids that are going to States. Events offered at training depend on coaches availability. Tomorrow so far we have middle distance with Coach Paul from 4.30 - 5.30pm. Coach Rachelle will be there from 5pm to coach Scissors. Coach Bonny can be there for Shot Put and Discus from 5pm - 5.45pm. I am still waiting to hear from other coaches but so far we only have two at this stage....so anyone wanting middle distance training or scissors training....come down to the track on Thursday afternoon!!
Tuesday's (9th Feb) training session with have High Jump as the focus event this week! This coming Tuesday (9th Feb) we are lucky enough to have Mark Sills come and run High Jump Sessions to assist current high jump coaches Marty and Johnny! As an Under 15 athlete in 1992 Mark jumped 2.10m in high jump at State Titles in Townsville and still holds the QLD and National record for that event. He also still holds many of our Centre records in many different age groups and events! Don't miss this opportunity to learn from the best! On Tuesday 2nd Feb we will be holding a race walking clinic in conjunction to our regular coaching sessions. Any children of any ability from Under 9+ are encouraged to attend to get their skills up to speed before the regionals on the weekend!! Ian Thompson is the coach who is coming to our Centre to run the coaching session. Ian originally started track & field coaching to help his children in the 'Little A' athletics. Ipswich Little Athletics had a team of 140 athletes who competed at the Metro West Regional Championships on Saturday 7th – Sunday 8th February at UQ, St Lucia. Our athletes performed outstandingly with a huge medal haul as well as some new Regional Best Performances being achieved. The final medal tally for the centre was 196 medals in total (83 gold, 63 silver and 50 bronze) with 88 athletes qualifying for the State Championships to be held at SAF, Nathan between the 20-22nd March 2015.
